This week we turn to a sad chapter in the life of Saul. We follow Saul to a necromancer–an individual who spoke to the dead–so that he could speak to Samuel, who had died some years earlier. In turning to the necromancer, Saul had turned away from the one true God to false gods, which Saul himself had forbidden!
We live in a world where there are more than a few false gods vying for our attention. Saul’s tale serves as a cautionary one, reminding us that we are lost apart from the one true God.

1 Samuel 28.16-17 – Samuel said, “The Lord has left you. He has become your enemy. So why are you asking me what you should do? The Lord has spoken through me and has done what he said he would do. The Lord has torn the kingdom out of your hands. He has given it to one of your neighbors. He has given it to David. (NIRV)
